FMCSA outlines policy changes on drug test procedures

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Aug. 20, 2001) — The U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on Friday published revised policies on drug and alcohol testing procedures for commercial drivers, bringing them in line with recent regulatory changes made by the Dept. of Transportation.

The new DOT rules are contained in amendments to Part 40 of federal drug and alcohol testing regulations, which became effective on Aug. 1. They involve new testing procedures designed to deter tampering, and changes to make drug and alcohol testing regulations easier to understand.

The new FMCSA policies reflect the revised DOT rules. They were published in the Federal Register on Aug. 17 and are effective from that date.
