Food bank chief thanks Canadian carriers for free transport
TORONTO, (April 22, 2004) — The executive director of the Canadian Association of Food banks thanked over a dozen truckers for “going the extra mile” in helping to feed the country’s poor and hungry.
Charles Seiden of the CAFB said at the Truck World Show in Toronto that part of the group’s success is the donation of transportation services from Canadian carriers and railways. Some of the carriers he thanked include:
Al’s Cartage; Bison Transport; Canada Cartage; Bell City Transport; Buckley’s Transportation; Erb Transport; Fluke Transport; Highland Transport; J.D. Smith and Son’s; Kriska Transportation; Mackie Moving System; Meyers Transport; Provider Transportation; Transport Robert; Roseman Transport; Thompson Terminals; and XTL Transport.
“I thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” Seiden said. “Without you, we wouldn’t be able to feed these people.”
Mark Seymour, President of Kriska Transportation urged carriers to partner with their customers in assisting regional food banks. He said carriers should ask food shippers if returns or damages could be donated to food banks in situations where food is logistically difficult to bring back.
