For-hire operating ratio unchanged from ’07
OTTAWA — Expenses for the top 97 for-hire trucking companies in Canada were reportedly higher than revenue in the first quarter of 2008.
According to Stats Canada, the year-over-year growth in expenses (+2.1%) was slightly higher than that of revenue (+1.8%), but the difference was small enough that the operating ratio remained unchanged from the previous year at 0.95.
Companies earning $25 million or more, then, generated operating revenue of $2.6 billion and operating expenses of $2.4 billion in the first quarter of 2008.
The top carriers for the first quarter of 2008 included 64 general freight and 33 specialized freight carriers compared with 66 and 31, respectively, a year ago.
