Freight Costs Increase for Canadian Shippers

The cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers increased 0.4 percent in August compared to July’s numbers, according to a report by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI).

“The trend toward marginal increases in Base Rates we observed last month has continued,” said Doug Payne, president and COO, Nulogx.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes fuel surcharges, has been climbing for six months including a 0.6 percent increase in August. Still, though, base rates are 4.8 percent below the same period last year.

The average fuel surcharges measured by carriers rose from 19 percent of Base Rates in July to just over 20 percent in August.
