Freightliner expands EzyRider seat, X-One, AirLiner options to Western Star
PORTLAND, Ore. (Feb. 5, 2001) — Freightliner LLC has expanded features exclusive to Freightliner and Sterling brand trucks to Western Star.
Western Star will offer Freightliners’s proprietary EzyRider seat and AirLiner suspension, and Michelin’s new X-One tires.
The X-One takes the place of conventional dual truck tires and offers weight savings, improved fuel economy, and long tread life. The new 445/50R22.5 X-One XDA tire replaces the dual tire configuration on a drive axle with a single tire that has a larger contact surface with the road. The weight savings is approximately 115 pounds per wheel end (460 pounds per tandem) when compared to conventional duals on steel wheels or 102 pounds per wheel end (408 pounds per tandem) when compared to conventional duals on aluminum wheels. This means either a 920-or 816-pound weight reduction for a tractor-trailer combination.
The AirLiner is an integrated front air suspension and steer axle system. Rated at 12,000 pounds, the AirLiner is over 100 pounds lighter than other leading suspension and axle systems. Production of Western Star trucks with AirLiner front suspension systems begins in April in Constellation set-back axle configurations (49SX). Set-forward models (49FX and 49EX) will be available by summer.
The EzyRider air suspension seat will now be the published standard in all Western Star Constellation sleeper model trucks.
