Freightliner to expand light-vehicle production

GAFFNEY, S.C. (May 22, 2000) — Freightliner Corp. plans to invest $11.4 million to expand its plant at Gaffney, S.C., to accommodate production of a new vehicle for the package-delivery market.

Freightliner builds light commercial vehicles and school buses at the plant. The 58,000-square-foot addition is expected to be complete by the first quarter of 2001, with assembly start up following shortly after completion.

Freightliner also said the expansion would add more than 100 jobs.
