Freightliner to outsource IT to debis

PORTLAND, Ore. — Freightliner Corp. will turn over management and support of its computer systems at future and existing North American dealer locations to debis IT Services North America. The five-year deal is valued at $70 million US. Freightliner currently has over 500 North American Freightliner and Sterling dealer locations.

debis IT Services North America, based in Chicago, is a subsidiary of debis Systemhaus GmbH, Stuttgart, known internationally as debit IT Services, a $1.8 billion US company in 1997.

Freightliner and debis Systemhaus are both DaimlerChrysler companies.

Freightliner said debis will lead a transition from traditional client/server technology to an Internet technology-based platform. The new Web-based systems will provide more flexibility and better integration with dealer applications, according to Freightliner president and CEO Jim Hebe.
