Generator Watches Idling Like a Hawk

The Idle Hawk auxiliary generator from Aux Generators of Dundalk, Ont., provides power for cab air conditioning, heating, battery charging, and engine block heating. The company says the 315-pound unit needs less maintenance and installation time than most generators due to its roll-out feature, which allows 360-degree access without any disconnection of hoses or cables. The Idle Hawk’s engine is a one-cylinder, air-oil cooled Kubota diesel with 9.5 horsepower, and the cooling system is an R134A hermetic compressor with self-contained motor. Electric heating is thermostatically controlled and independent of the main engine, and provides 1800 watts. When set to “auto” mode, the Idle Hawk will cycle between on and off to maintain battery charge, by either the A/C or the heating as required, and shuts down when the desired sleeper temperature has been reached.
