Georgian Bay Highway to get face lift

COLLINGWOOD, Ont. (July 11, 2000) -In order to ease the heavy traffic flow during peak periods in the Georgian Bay area, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation has announced that it will invest $27 million to realign Hwy. 26 south of Georgian Bay.

Transportation minister David Turnbull said the design, surveying, and property acquisition for the first phase of the realignment between Wasaga Beach and the Batteaux River is set to begin immediately, with construction scheduled to start in 2002.
The final phase from Wasaga to Collingwood is expected to be completed in 2004.

The ministry also announced it would participate in the Georgian Triangle Area Transportation Study, which will examine future transport needs for the area’s municipal and provincial road network. The study is expected to be complete by the end of 2001.
