Gov. to roll out new pro-DRIC legislation

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder will push forward with new legislation that would approve a new public bridge between Windsor and Detroit.

A spokesman in Snyder’s office indicated a new bill could be rolled out in the next few weeks, according to The Windsor Star.

Ken Silfven told The Star that the new legislation is "a significant departure from the previous discussions."

"We are not repackaging something from last year."

The state remains the last major hurdle to get construction started on the DRIC bridge.

Canada, which has offered $550 million to Michigan to cover its share of costs, has already approved construction and is awaiting for Michigan to rubber stamp the project.

The new legislation could once again face opposition from Michigan Republicans who sided with Ambassador Bridge owner Matty Moroun and voted to shelve the project late last year.
