Gravel haulers strike in New Brunswick

HAVELOCK, N.B. (Oct. 23, 2000) — About three dozen independent gravel truck operators working on a privately managed highway between Moncton and Fredericton have parked their trucks, demanding the same rate as truckers who haul for provincial government projects.

The government rate is $2.08 a tonne. The gravel haulers say they receive $1 a tonne from the highway contractor, the privately managed Maritime Road Development Corporation.
