Guy Chevrette resigns
QUEBEC CITY (Jan. 29, 2002) — Transport Routier, Today’s Trucking magazine’s sister French-language publication, is reporting that Quebec Transportation Minister Guy Chevrette beat his own party to the punch and resigned today.
Chevrette was one minister the Parti Quebecois was expected to drop from the next provincial cabinet in order to give the party a younger image. Recent comments in which Chevrette revealed he refused a bribe years ago, but did not report the incident to the police, have also annoyed party leaders.
Chevrette and Natural Resources minister Jacques Brassard announced they resigned during a joint press conference.Both veterans of the party said they prefer to resign instead of play minor roles within the provincial government.
Chevrette, who has been Transportation Minister since Decemeber 1998, also resiged his MP position. A ministerial reorganization is planned tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
