Heated blades good for summer too
Rostra Precision Controls
Rostra Precision Controls says its new silicone-based wiper blades that resist icing in winter conditions, also provide exemplary service during warmer months.
“Traditional windshield wiper blades are made from organic, natural rubber, which is composed mainly of carbon and hydrogen atoms,” said Thomas Weiss, Rostra’s vice president of the automotive accessories group. Organic rubber, he says, simply cannot withstand temperature extremes. As a result, the blades rapidly deteriorate, severely limiting their ability to clear the windshield.
Silicone-based rubber instead renders a more effective wiper blade thanks to the use of sand in the compound. The result is a blade that can last up to three times longer than a traditional organic rubber blade, the company says.
The system, originally aimed at the auto industry, can also be fitted easily to heavy-duty trucks and construction vehicles. It comes complete with all required hardware and easy to follow instructions, as well as the silicone blade.
