Hino certified for ’07

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Hino Trucks has received certification of conformity from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for all of its 2007 model year engines, adhering to stringent EPA standards of emissions reduction being introduced for all on-highway diesel engines starting Jan. 1, 2007.

Hino Trucks will start producing its 2008 model year trucks in the first quarter of 2007.

“We are pleased to have met the challenge of producing cleaner engines while still maintaining our competitive edge in fuel economy and engine performance,” said Nick Vermet, senior vice-president of Sales, Marketing and Customer Support of Hino Trucks. “Hino Trucks supports the actions taken by the Environmental Protection Agency to reduce the emissions by medium and heavy-duty trucks. By utilizing the same technology used in Japan to meet Japan’s stringent emissions regulations, we are able to provide our U.S. customers with a cost effective, proven solution.”

The Hino 2007 engine family consists of the JO5D-TF 4-cylinder and the JO8E-TV & TW 6-cylinder engines available in two horsepower ratings. Hino is recognized worldwide for their innovation in engine design, combining high-pressure common rail fuel injection, variable geometry turbocharger design and cooled EGR for emission control.

This summer, the truckmaker opened the doors to its first Canadian assembly plant in Woodstock, Ont. to go along with its Long Beach, Calif. facility.
The 132,000-sq-ft facility will produce Hino’s class 4 to 7 trucks and has a capacity of 2,000 trucks per year.
