Hino Says It May Supply Engines To U.S. Heavy-Truck Maker
TOKYO, Japan (Jan. 20, 2000) — Hino Motors Ltd., the leading manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty trucks in Japan, has revealed it is in discussions with an unnamed U.S. heavy-truck manufacturer to provide diesel engines.
Company officials note that truck sales in Japan have dropped sharply throughout the 1990s, and developing export markets has become a high priority. Hino has reportedly never before supplied engines to other vehicle makers.
