HOS comment period extended

WASHINGTON — The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has extended the public comment period for its interim hours-of-service rule for another 30 days.

The comment period was supposed to close today, Feb. 15, but FMCSA Administrator John Hill announced this week he would keep the docket open through March 17.

An extension was requested by Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety.
Under the Interim Final Rule, truck drivers will continue to be limited to driving only 11 hours within a 14-hour duty period. They must be off duty for 10 consecutive hours after that.

Several groups were successful in getting the 11 hours driving limit and 34-hour restart provisions vacated by a court last summer. But FMCSA revised the rules in another TFR in a manner that retained both provisions.
