How to keep your PC from freezing
Glacier Computer designs computers that live up to the company name: ones you can use in cold storage warehouses. One is a 12-inch colour touch-screen design called M-Station, which runs Windows and is available with forklift mounts, a
cordless bar-code scanner, 802.11b wireless networking, and a printer.
An optional screen heater helps the M-Station function in temperatures down to -30 C. By bringing the temperature of the touch-screen surface above dew point, the heater helps cut down on condensation that might occur when the computer moves between warm and cold zones. Otherwise, water droplets can freeze on the screen when the computer is wheeled back to a colder environment.
The M-Station also has an isolated power supply, a convenient feature when you’re operating an electric truck (you can exchange the vehicle battery without having to reboot the computer).
