Hwy 7 in Marmora to get major facelift
MARMORA, Ont. — The Ontario government is repaving, adding new turning lanes and a truck-climbing lane to improve traffic flow along Hwy. 7, Transportation Minister Donna Cansfield announced.
“This section of Highway 7 hasn’t had major repairs since 1969,” said Cansfield. “These improvements will make the highway safer for people who live in the communities of Marmora and Madoc and those who travel through the area.”
Improvements include: 11.5 km of newly paved road from Marmora to Madoc; a new truck-climbing lane east of Deloro Road to move eastbound trucks out of the way of regular traffic as they climb the hill on Hwy 7; extending two existing westbound truck-climbing lanes at Marmora Mine Rd and Booster Park Rd to improve traffic flow.
Turning lanes will also be added at five locations along the highway as well as upgrading lighting between Roscoe St. and the Crowe River Bridge to improve nighttime visibility.
The $14.7-million project is expected to be complete by fall 2008.
During construction, drivers will occasionally have to share a single lane during the day and travel on a gravel surface for short stretches.
