International Brake Check Day set for Sept. 8

OTTAWA (Sept. 1, 1999) – Truck inspectors across Canada and the U.S. will be conducting random brake system checks on Sept. 8, designated International Brake Check Day.

The concentrated effort is part of Operation Air Brake, an ongoing campaign organized by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators and Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance to promote braking system compliance. Enforcement officers will be using an 11-poin t CVSA Level 4 inspection standard.

Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions conducted a similar blitz in May. An unannounced brake crackdown is planned for sometime in October.
