International Bridge lowers toll rates

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. (April 2, 2004) — The Joint International Bridge Authority, which operates the International Bridge that connects Ontario and Michigan at Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. has lowered toll rates for carriers paying in Canadian funds.

The Ontario Trucking Association reports the average five axle tractor-trailer will now pay $1.00 less per crossing, while multi-axle combinations and b-trains will see savings of up to $2.00 per crossing.

The adjustment is based on an agreement between the owners of both sides of the bridge, which includes a provision that requires the Canadian currency toll rate to be adjusted each year based on the average daily currency exchange rate for the previous six-month period.

Contact the IBA at 906/635-5255 for a complete list of adjusted rates per tractor-trailer axle combination.
