International layoffs: Round two
International Truck and Engine Corp. plans to lay off about 500 employees at its Springfield, Ohio, plant on March 5 because of slow truck sales, according to the Associated Press.
In this second wave of layoffs, the workforce at the plant will be reduced from 4,200 to 3,700. About 500 workers were laid off in November.
The company has said it expects to reduce the work force at its Springfield plant to about 2,800 workers by the end of 2003 as it begins producing a next-generation medium-duty truck and moves production of large trucks to other plants.
