Intro of Mitsubishi Fuso Canadian network delayed

BRIDGEPORT, N.J. (Aug. 18, 1999) — The entrance of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America (MFTA) medium-duty trucks into the Canadian market – planned to occur by September 1 according to a company announcement of mid-May – has been delayed slightly. A well-placed source has told Today’s Trucking that an “event” is now planned for mid-October that will officially launch this venture and introduce a number of newly recruited dealers.

The same source indicated that the Canadian headquarters for “MFTA Canada” will likely be located in the Greater Toronto Area. Plans as originally announced called for creation of a cross-Canada network of approximately 25 dealers that would sell class-3 through class-7 cabover vehicles.

Headquartered in Bridgeport, N.J., Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America has 170 U.S. dealers selling 10 different truck models that range in GVW from 12,000 to 32,900 lbs.
