Iteris on track
Iteris will offer its lane-departure warning system as an aftermarket item on any class-8 truck with a J-1939 data bus. Each retrofit kit consists of a wiring harness, speakers, switch, connectors, and cables and costs about $1,000 US including installation, Iteris says.
The lane-departure warning system uses a windshield-mounted camera that tracks lane markings on the highway. A computer monitors the relative position of the truck and if it unintentionally crosses lane marker, the system emits a distinctive rumble strip sound on the right or left side depending on the direction of travel, alerting the driver to make a correction. The truck’s turn signals automatically override the system.
Iteris currently produces retrofit kits for Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Peterbilt, and Volvo trucks.
