It’s on time or it’s on us: Con-Way offers guaranteed on-time delivery
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Jan. 21) — Con-Way Transportation Services will offer guaranteed delivery by a certain transit time schedule or there will be no charge — but customers will have to pay a 20% premium for the service.
Called Con-Way Guaranteed!, the on-time-or-your-money-back option begins Feb. 1. It will be available throughout the less-than-truckload company’s service network, which includes Canada.
“Con-Way Guaranteed! is a natural extension of our unmatched on-time performance record and gives our customers the most economical guarantee in the industry,” said Gerald L. Detter, president and chief executive officer of Con-Way. “It’s on time or it’s on us.”
Determination of on-time service performance will be based on the standard transit time published at Con-Way’s web site on the day the shipment is tendered. If Con-Way does not deliver the freight within the standard time, then an invoice will be issued with a $0.00 balance, the company said.
The premium service will cost 20% more than regular base rates. Con-Way Guaranteed! charges will be added to the customer’s existing discounted price, Detter noted. He said the policy is different from other industry warranty programs that add the premium to a customer’s undiscounted base rate, or that use a separate, higher rate base for premium shipments.
Shipments not eligible for the program are products requiring protection from freezing, shipments affected by natural disasters, abnormal weather conditions, and shipments destined to points not directly served by Con-Way.
Con-Way Transportation Services, a subsidiary of Palo Alto, Calif.-based CNF Transportation Inc., operates Con-Way Central Express, Con-Way Southern Express, and Con-Way Western Express, three regional LTL divisions; Con-Way Truckload Services, providing multi-modal, full-truckload shipping; Con-Way NOW, an expedited carrier specializing in emergency shipment service; and Con-Way Integrated Services, a contract logistics group.
