Kenworth launches awareness program on fuel economy

KIRKLAND, Wash. (Oct. 30, 2001) — Kenworth Truck Co. yesterday launched a major awareness program to help fleets and owner-operators improve their fuel economy.

To kick off the program, Kenworth has produced a comprehensive “White Paper on Fuel Economy” and created a “Dynamics of Fuel Efficiency” web site link at www.kenworth.com. Kenworth’s 14-page white paper may be downloaded electronically from the new web site link.

Kenworth’s “White Paper on Fuel Economy” explores six major areas: aerodynamics, component spec’ing, advanced technology, route management, driver behavior, and proper maintenance. The component spec’ing section offers a tire tips section, courtesy of Bridgestone.

In addition, the white paper examines Kenworth’s activities in the fuel economy arena. For example, Kenworth engineers pursue greater fuel efficiency through aerodynamic enhancements achieved by using sophisticated computer technology — called computational fluid dynamics — combined with wind tunnel, test track and real-world highway testing. The white paper includes miles per gallon results for the aerodynamic Kenworth T2000 model compiled from both on-highway testing and runs on the PACCAR Technical Center’s 1.6-mile test track.
