L-Line Enhancements

Sterling Trucks has given its L-Line of class-7 and -8 vocational trucks a string of new features, including a standard air-ride cab, new bumpers, and suspended pedals.

The air-ride cab suspension is now standard on L-series vocational trucks (straight trucks up to 98,000 pounds gross vehicle weight), and tractors (up to 190,000 pounds gross combination weight).

A new optional bumper with centre-pull capability is also available for vocational trucks in severe-duty service. It features a heavy-duty steel crossmember behind the centre section with a tow eye that protrudes through it. Designed for applications in construction, oil field work, mining, and heavy dump use, the centre-pull bumper is available on tractors and trucks up to 190,000 pounds GCW.

Another three-piece vocational bumper option features bolt-on, breakaway ends that can be reattached or replaced after a collision. In a strong impact, the end section brackets at the bolt-on ends absorb the force and give way, so the centre part of the bumper remains intact.

Rounding out the list of new features is a configuration that suspends the accelerator, clutch, and brake pedals from the firewall. In the standard configuration, the accelerator and clutch pedals are suspended, while the brake pedal is mounted on the floor. The company says the new arrangement helps prevent the accumulation of dirt and debris on the floor and around the pedals-a common complaint.
