Lobby group touts the benefits of ‘clean diesel’

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 30, 2001) — The Diesel Technology Forum launched a new Web site focusing on the benefits of “clean diesel” technology to reduce emissions from existing diesel engines.

Forum executive director Allen Schaeffer said the site is designed to educate equipment operators, fleet managers, government officials, and the public about how to reduce diesel engine emissions. Among the options are retrofitting engines with emissions filters and catalysts; using cleaner diesel fuels or emissions-reducing fuel additives; and taking existing engines and upgrading them with hardware and/or software changes.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has established a campaign goal of retrofitting 100,000 existing diesel engines by Jan. 1, 2002.
