LTL specialist Con-Way broadens online access for customers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Aug. 8, 2001) — Con-Way Transportation Services announced today that customers registered on its web site can access reports on the status of all of their invoices for less-than-truckload (LTL) service. This includes operations and billing information for Con-Way Canada Express, Con-Way Central Express, Con-Way Southern Express, and Con-Way Western Express.

Summary reports as well as details on each invoice can are available, and “drill-down capabilities” allow users to get rate and delivery details on shipments as well as copies of shipping documents and the delivery receipt.

There are also added security measures to protect customer data.

“We’ve had the technical capability to deliver this for well over a year,” said Jacquelyn Barretta, vice-president, information services for Con-Way. “When we held our first customer focus groups on this subject about 18 months ago, however, it was clear that our customers did not want all their employees to have access to this sensitive financial information. They wanted it restricted to ‘those who needed to know.’ Our challenge was to build a system that would provide the customer with the control to manage access.”

Con-Way is a $2.1 billion US company that provides time-definite and day-definite freight delivery services, logistics, and e-commerce consulting services. It is a subsidiary of Palo Alto, Calif.-based transportation conglomerate CNF.
