M-O Freight boss pledges $1M for hospital

BRAMPTON, Ont. — A new hospital in the Greater Toronto Area is getting a $1 million boost from a friendly neighborhood trucking company.

According to the Brampton Guardian, Doug Munro, president of Maritime-Ontario Freight Lines, and his family will donate $1 million toward the construction of the Brampton Civic Hospital.

Munro made the $1 million pledge through the Graham Munro Charitable Foundation, an organization named after his late father, who founded the for-hire carrier 50 years ago.

Munro told the newspaper his connection to Brampton and the carrier’s close proximity to the new hospital is what inspired the family to donate the cash.

“There is a special need for (this new hospital) and we want to be good corporate sponsors,” Munro said.
