Mack Announces Record Sales for 1999

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (Jan. 20, 2000) — Mack Trucks Inc. says that 1999 brought record sales of 34,264 class-8 trucks. This gave the veteran truckmaker — these days a subsidary of France’s Renault V.I. — a 13.1-percent share of the U.S. market, up from 12.8 percent in 1998. Mack says this makes it the only U.S.-based heavy-truck manufacturer to consistently increase its market share in each of the past seven years. The company ended up in third place among all U.S. heavy-truck OEMs, following Freightliner and Navistar International.

Mack’s Canadian sales and marketing subsidiary, Mack Canada Inc., experienced a slight drop in sales, to 2,858 units and a 9.3 percent Canadian market share. In 1998, the Canadian operation achieved a 10.0 percent share.

The year 2000 represents the centennial of Mack’s founding, and numerous special events and programs are planned.
