MacKinnon Transport celebrates milestone
GUELPH, Ont. — MacKinnon Transport has come a long way since Leslie MacKinnon purchased his first used straight-truck in June 1929 to haul livestock and farm supplies.
Leslie and his wife Stella ran it for 17 years as a one truck company with 125 small customers. But the company really took off in 1946 when it hauled its first load of Armco Drainage products. By the late 1950’s Armco products made up almost 100 percent of MacKinnon’s business and led the trucker to relocate near Armco’s headquarters in Guelph.
This month, the Guelph, Ont.-based truckload carrier is celebrating its 80th anniversary.
"Obviously I’m very proud as the third generation of our family’s heritage in the trucking industry and sincerely appreciate the success and prosperity we have all been blessed with," said Evan MacKinnon, President & CEO. "Of course none of the company’s longevity would have been possible with out the continued hard work, dedication and loyalty of all employees and owner-operators that work here today and have worked here over the past years."
