Manitoba enacts changes to trailer licensing system
WINNIPEG (Feb. 10, 2003) — Manitoba Transportation and Government Services announced that it is issuing new lifetime number plates for all semi-trailer registration renewals, effective last month. New plates no longer display an expiry date and may remain on the vehicle for as long as it continues to be owned by the same owner.
The registration period for semi-trailers will change from the current five-year cycle to a fixed two-year cycle, said Dennis Nelson, deputy registrar and director of licencing for the province. The first fixed period will begin March 1, 2003, and end on the last day of February 2005. The registration period repeats accordingly after that.
Although registration renewal certificates issued indicate an effective date of March 1, 2003, carriers that have already renewed their semi-trailer registrations may display the new number plate prior to March 1, 2003. They are considered active and valid.
As in the past, validation stickers will not be issued for semi-trailer number plates. Registration validity will continue to have to be confirmed through the registration certificate and/or vehicle registration computer system.
