Manitoba says bye cell

WINNIPEG — As of this Friday, June 11, cops in Manitoba will be charging drivers caught using handheld communication devices behind the wheel.

Bill 5 under the The Highway Traffic Amendment Act was passed on June 11 last year and was scheduled to come into affect one year later.

You’ll be glad to know CB radios are excluded from the law; and amendments have also been made to allow cellular and radio use by law enforcement, fire departments, and ambulance services.

Bob Dolyniuk of the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA), which lobbied for the CB exclusion, says he’s not sure yet if financial penalties have been announced yet.
