Manitoba trucking school to train RV drivers

WINNIPEG — The acclaimed truck professional driver training program at Red River College is offering RV drivers a one-day course on operating their mobile homes.

Starting next month, reports the Winnipeg Free Press, the first part of the program will cover theory in the classroom, such as proper towing techniques, propane and electrical safety, and personal safety. The second part program is learning how to manoeuvre the rigs in real life environments.

Bob Dolyniuk, general manager of the Manitoba Trucking Association, tells the Free Press that the program should help give RV drivers more practical knowledge on handling the large vehicles.

The course costs $325.

Meanwhile, Toromont, a large Caterpillar dealership franchise, is donating $5,000 to Red River College to enhance training opportunities for heavy-duty equipment technicians. The money is being matched by Caterpillar.
