McLeod Software names new marketing chief, rolls out Java-based software

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Feb. 25, 2002) — McLeod Software has hired a former IBM and General Electric executive to head its marketing efforts as the software company prepares to push into Canada and Europe.

Bob Wallis was named chief marketing officer, a newly created position at the company.

The move comes as McLeod is preparing to roll out a Java version of its LoadMaster fleet management software, LoadMaster Enterprise.

“It probably doubles the number of trucking companies we can sell to, especially the top 200 larger companies,” company president Tom McLeod told the Birmingham Business Journal. “It lets our program run on everything from PCs to mainframes.

“We knew we’d go into Europe and Canada the second half of this year and expand our selling effort in this country once our new product was available,” he added. “We just needed more horsepower to make that happen.”

McLeod said current vice-president of sales Chuck Segrest will retain that position, directing the sales staff in the field.
