Michelin Invests in Waterville Tire Manufacturing Plant
WATERVILLE, NS. — Michelin is investing $73 million in its Waterville truck tire plant, the company announced today.
Michelin said the investment will create 50 new jobs over the next four to five years as the project develops. On the docket are improvements to equipment and manufacturing technology, as well as a 3,000 sq. metre assembly building expansion.
Dana LeBlanc, president, Michelin North America Canada, said the company has seen a growing market for their wide-based tires in North America. “This manufacturing investment at Waterville will help us meet that demand,” he said, adding “Michelin believes in both the province of Nova Scotia and our highly skilled employees.”
“Companies like Michelin have demonstrated that Nova Scotians, and particularly the workers and industries in rural Nova Scotia, can be among the world’s best in quality and productivity,” said Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter.
LeBlanc pointed out Michelin’s 40-year history of manufacturing in Nova Scotia and their partnership with the provincial government. “This investment is even more special,” he added, “as Waterville just celebrated 30-years of manufacturing last year.”
