Mike Poschner’s $12,600 Haircut
MARKHAM, ON. — Mike Poschner didn’t intend to walk away from this year’s Heavy Duty Distributor Council (HDDC) conference bald. But that’s what happened. And a bunch of kids are better off for it.
For the past dozen years, Toronto’s Sick Kids’ Hospital has been the charity of choice for the national heavy-duty distributor group.
And HDDC President Ian Johnston of Cambridge, ON-based Harman Heavy Vehicle Specialists, says, in those 12 years, the group has raised more than $280,000.
At this year’s conference, which runs from June 1 to 4, they continued the tradition with a silent auction Monday evening.
Moments before it started, a good-hearted woman announced to whomever was listening that she would donate $5,000 if Mike Poschner, the Canadian National Sales Manager of Phillips Industries, would chop off all his hair.
Everybody agreed it was a great idea, and by the time Poschner was under the scissors, a total of $12,600 had been pledged.
Pres. Johnston also noted that the expensive haircut is only a part of the fundraising effort.
“This will definitely be a record year for donations,” he told todaystrucking.com.
