Muench to head Cummins-Westport joint venture

VANCOUVER, B.C. (April 18, 2001) — Cummins Inc. and Westport Innovations Inc. have named Gottfried “Guff” Muench president and chief executive of the Cummins-Westport alternate fuels joint venture.

Muench spent 20 years with Cummins, including 12 years running Cummins British Columbia, a distributor based in Surrey, B.C.

Muench’s office, and the joint venture’s headquarters, will be located at Westport’s head office in Vancouver.

Muench bought the British Columbia distributorship in 1986 and has run it since, except for the period from 1995 to 1999 when he moved to Columbus, Ind., as a Cummins vice-president responsible for aftermarket products.

The Cummins-Westport joint venture is responsible for further development of Cummins’ alternate fuel technology for bus and truck engines up to 8.3 liters, and for continued development of Westport’s natural gas fuel system for larger Cummins engines, including the 15-litre ISX heavy-duty truck engine and the QSK family of stationary power generation engines.
