Mullen names latest 3 buys

CALGARY — The largest of the three fleets aquired last week by the Mullen Group is 50-truck oil services and specialized rig carrier Spearing Service Ltd in Oxbow, Sask.

The carrier, headed by Don and Trevor Spearing, has six different bases located throughout southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba.

Mullen, which grew to become Canada’s third-largest for-hire carrier when it merged with Producers Oilfield Services earlier this month, announced last week it was buying three small carriers for a reported $31 million.

Mullen also acquired Burnell Contractors Ltd., a Calgary carrier that provides specialized transportation services to the energy, pipeline, petrochemical and construction industries.

The third buy was C. Steen Trucking Ltd., a flatbed carrier based in Edmonton. C. Steen will continue to operate from its Edmonton facility as a division of Payne Transportation, Mullen said.
