National Trucker Appreciation Week shifts to September

TORONTO (Feb. 8, 2000) — The date of Canada’s second annual National Trucker Appreciation Week, an event promoted by the countryÕs for-hire trucking associations as a tribute to truck drivers and others in the industry, has been changed from the first week of June to Sept. 11-17.

The September date will coincide with Truck World 2000, a trade show being produced by the Ontario Trucking Association in conjunction with the Canadian Trucking Alliance, a federation of the seven provincial for-hire trucking associations. Truck World 2000 will take place Sept. 14 to 16 at the National Trade Centre at Exhibition Place in Toronto.

Last year, the first National Trucker Appreciation Week was celebrated with events ranging from free hot dogs at weigh scales to public education campaigns in local media.

“The affiliation with the truck show will let us tie together and promote two national events,” said OTA communications director Rebecka Torn. “Because the show is national, it can be a platform not only for events in Ontario, but for tie-ins for the benefit of other associations across Canada.”
