National Trucking Week kicks off
TORONTO (August 27, 2001) — Rise and shine, it’s National Trucking Week.
The tribute week, which recognizes the important contributions made by the 400,000 Canadian men and women who keep the country’s freight moving, kicked off yesterday and will run until Sept. 1.
The event’s chief organizer, the Canadian Trucking Alliance, is encouraging carriers and truckers to join in the celebrations by taking part in one of the many regional events being held all over the country. If you’re looking for an event to participate in or want to initiate your own, your regional trucking association is a great place to start.
The Alberta Trucking Association offers 52 suggestions on how to make this year’s Trucking Week a memorable one for you and your community on its website at www.albertatrucking.com. Check it out.
This coming Wednesday and Thursday, the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association’s Safety Council will be holding its annual Driver Appreciation Days at the Truro Heights Irving, Truro, N.S. The APTA encourages any member who would like to volunteer his or her time at this event is more than welcome to attend. Call the group at 1-866/866-1679.
The Ontario Trucking Asociation has safety and four-wheelers in mind for this year’s event, as it will distribute free videos called Sharing the Road with Trucks to the first 1000 people who request one. The purpose of the videos is to promote road safety and safe road sharing practices between cars and trucks. Give them a ring at 416/249-7401.
