Navistar names Ustian CEO, to succeed Horne
WARRENVILLE, Ill. (Dec. 11, 2002) — Navistar International Corp. named Daniel C. Ustian chief executive officer, effective Feb. 19.
Ustian is currently president and chief operating officer of the company, which produces trucks, buses, and engines under the International brand. He will succeed John R. Horne, who will continue as chairman, the company said in a press release. The role of chief operating officer will not be filled.
Ustian, 52, joined Navistar in 1973. He was named vice-president and general manager of the company’s engine group in November 1990, president of the engine group in July 1999, and president and chief operating officer in April 2002. Under Ustian’s leadership, Navistar grew to become the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial diesel engines in a range of 160 to 300 horsepower.
“I have worked with Dan for many years, and he is absolutely the right person to lead us into the future,” Horne said. “His track record, including his role in the growth of our engine business and the development of stronger relationships with Ford Motor Co. and other key customers and partners, convinces me that he will make the most of the company’s many opportunities.”
Horne, 63, joined Navistar in 1966 as an engineer and became president in 1990 and chief executive officer in March 1995.
