Navistar to recall International trucks for possible brake defect
WASHINGTON (June 12, 2002) — Navistar International, maker of International brand trucks, buses, and engines, said it will conduct a voluntary safety recall to address a safety defect on air brake fittings.
According to the company’s quarterly report filed yesterday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company informed the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the defect last month.
The defect involves a brass fitting that connects the double check valve to the brake relay valve, the filing said.
The company is developing repair kits as part of the recall that should be available in July or August. Up to 153,800 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada could be affected.
