NB city trims down truck route list

FREDERICTON – This city’s public works wants to ban trucks on Canada Street south of Bridge Street and on Gibson Street.

The proposal to amend the list of city truck routes is in response to some serious accidents on the minor arterial streets, which carry between 7,000-10,000 vehicles per day.

According to the Daily Gleaner, the city says the elimination of the throughways as truck routes would have minimal impact on trucking operations.

There are sufficient provincially designated routes to support local trucking, officials say.

The city is asking local police to step up enforcement once the ban is in place.
