N.B. kicks-in another $440 million on transport infrastructure
FREDERICTON — The province of New Brunswick will put $439.3 million in transportation infrastructure, Transportation Minister Denis Landry announced as part of a third consecutive record capital budget.
Landry said this brings the government’s investment in roads, highways and bridges to more than $1.3 billion since October 2006.
Some highlights of where the money will be spent, include:
Over $126 million for the construction and upgrading of provincial highways and $97.5 million for National Highway System including work on Route 1 One Mile House Interchange; Route 7 Welsford Bypass; Route 8 Marysville-Nashwaak Bypass; and pre-construction for various projects, such as the Route 11 Janeville-Pokemouche Bypass and twinning between Moncton and Miramichi.
About $83.3 million will go towards bridge and ferry upgrades; $46.5 million to upgrade routes under the Rural Road Infrastructure program; $45.3 million for the construction of the 82-vehicle Grand Manan ferry; $68 million to pave 236 km of arterial highways and collector roads; the continuation of repairs on a number of bridges in southeastern New Brunswick, along with widening of Mapleton Road in Moncton and major work related to the Scoudouc Industrial Park Interchange.

Landry also confirmed the government’s commitment to construct 300 km of wildlife fencing. A total of $2.8 million is budgeted for 43 km of new barriers to be installed on Route 2 south of Oromocto and on Route 17 in the Duff Lake/Tide Head area.
