NB nixes Mackay Hwy expansion project
FREDERICTON — The government of New Brunswick has decided not to widen the Mackay Highway.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams stated that the government was forced to reconsider the job after "review all capital projects to reduce costs."
He said that the project is not necessary at this time.
"We anticipate that changes to this project will save taxpayers a significant amount of money," he stated in a press release.
The Department will continue "with measures" to "reduce traffic congestion in the area."
Upgrades will be made to the Route 111 interchange and selected ramps along the highway.
