N.B. seeks developer for new Trans-Canada stretch

FREDERICTON (Nov. 14, 2003) — The New Brunswick government is looking for a private developer to complete and operate another stretch of Trans-Canada Highway through New Brunswick. The government officially announced plans yesterday to build the four-lane highway across the province by 2007.

Transportation Minister Paul Robichaud said his department will complete a 30-kilometre stretch from Pokiok to Longs Creek, but will seek a developer to design and build the 100 kilometres between Grand Falls and Woodstock, N.B. The developer will also maintain a 200-kilometre stretch of the highway.

The highway between Fredericton and Moncton was built by Maritime Road Development Corp. But Robichaud said that unlike the deal between Maritime Road and the former Liberal government, the new highway will have no tolls and will include federal money.
