New APU from Teleflex

Who couldn’t use a little extra power-or a lot of it, given the demands of an HVAC system, fridge, TV, interior lighting, and other juice-suckers you want in the sleeper cab. One solution is to idle the engine, a costly proposition given the price of fuel and, in some places, a ticket for excessive idling. Another is an auxiliary power unit. The latest from Teleflex Canada, maker of ProHeat APUs, is Gen 4, a generator/alternator capable of supplying power for climate controls, battery charging, engine preheating, and a variety of onboard appliances.
Driven by a 13.9-horsepower Kubota diesel motor, Gen 4 produces 40 amps at 12 to 14 volts DC for charging the truck’s batteries and 4,000 watts at 115 volts AC for running household appliances. The cab heating system can produce up to 10,000 BTU an hour, while a split air conditioning system with condenser mounted independently of the APU helps avoid degradation from the road and engine heating.
A compact, illuminated touch pad control panel lets you control the environment as well as the APU from inside the cab. Also, two removable panels allow for easier access to filters and other service components.
The unit mounts between the fuel tank and rear wheels and fits inside all fairings. The Gen 4 comes with a
two-year/4,000-hour warranty.
