New Atlantic container hub in the works
SYDNEY, N.S. — A French firm and Laurentian Energy Corp., a Nova Scotia manufacturing and property management group are hooking up on a joint venture to build a new $200-million container terminal in Sydney, N.S.
According to Canadian Press Laurentian Galaxy SARL of France plan to design a two-berth container facility with a yearly capacity of 750,000 tonnes. It would be built to handle the world’s largest vessels.
The project — which after completing an environmental assessment could start in 2010 — will require a deepening of the Sydney harbour access channel to 17 metres.
