New Brunswick DOT offers online permit orders

FREDERICTON (April 29, 2002) — Truckers operating in New Brunswick can use the Internet to apply for a permit for certain oversize vehicles and loads.

The new service will allow truckers to apply and pay for the $13 permit through Service New Brunswick Online at www.snb.ca. DOT staff will evaluate the submission by the end of the next business day. If the request is approved, the authorized permit will be faxed directly to the applicant. If the request is denied, Service New Brunswick will credit the applicant’s Visa or Mastercard.

“Putting this service online is another step forward in reducing red tape for the trucking industry,” transport minister Percy Mockler said. “The hard working people in this industry can now apply for these permits from the comfort of their own offices or homes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

The payment option is the result of a partnership between the provincial Dept. of Transportation and Service New Brunswick.

Oversize vehicle permits are routinely issued for overwidth vehicles and indivisible loads that do not exceed 3.65 metres in width. These permits are also issued for loads that exceed 4.15 metres in height or exceed 12.5 metres in length for trucks, exceed 23 metres for tractor-trailers or exceed 25 metres for twin trailers. During the past year, 3400 of these permits were issued.
